Kitchen Knives
When you are visiting any kitchen store you might be a little baffled when you are confronted with a huge arrangement of diverse types of kitchen knife. Well the rationale that there are so many distinct types of knife is that they each are designed with a specific purpose in mind. Of all the different types of knife, though, the most diverse is the chef’s knife. If there was one bit of advice I would give, it’s that, if you only want to buy one kitchen knife, look at chef’s knives. A good chef’s knife can be used for chopping up fruits and vegetables, slicing cooked or raw meat, slicing cheese and further general tasks like slicing sandwiches. Ok, so just a chef’s knife then. But there are so many types of chef’s knife. There are two things that you need to think about in determining your choice.
Your Hand Size
If you have small hands, then you won’t want to work with a large, weighty knife. On the other hand if you have very big hands then a smaller one wil be difficult to hold and you may not be able to exert enough force. Another isue is whether you have a moulded handle or not. These might be fine for you if you have bigger hands. But a a flatter handle is more suitable for you if you have smaller hands.
The Tasks You’ll Undertake
If you have other knives and you’ll mainly be using your chef’s knife for chopping up smaller vegetables and slicing meat, then a short blade may well be the correct choice. However, if the array of tasks may include sling through water melons, then a longer cutting edge is more required
